futile

February 28, 2008

i always say songs are in my top 20, but i am pretty sure i have said that about 40 songs. i think i will make an actual top 20 that i will stand by for about 5 mins.

to start i have:

pulp- disco 2000

new order- temptation

notorious big- juicy

13th floor elevators- dust

luomo- tessio

belle and sebastian- lazy line painter jane

tommy james- crimson and clover

charalambides- two birds

electric prunes- i had too much to dream last night

bonnie prince billy- raining in darling

then its a total pile-up of yaz, wire, underworld, walkmen, robert wyatt, rolling stones, a-ha, millennium, love,  dire straits, echo and the bunnymen, dexys, daft punk, autechre, boards of canada, cannibal ox, abba, alphaville, avalanches, etc etc

in other news, i didn’t win the lottery last night.

I did have a fantastic time in the city though.

“Paint it Black” by the rolling stones came on the true oldies channel the other day while i was driving. I forgot how completely awesome that song is. It’s like a Morricone score combined with that great Eastern-tinged sitar and rock. Definitely a top three Stones track for me.

Pluramon often reminds me of M83… i dont understand why certain people like pluramon, but not M83 haha.

other musics i am listening to:  Atlas Sound, Plotkin/Gutzeit on Kranky, Roxette Greatest Hits, that junk I just got in the mail and the old stand-bys (Pulp, New Order, Underworld, Charalambides)

I think that I have found someone to go to Green Zebra with me again… so happy.

musics!

JOSHUA BURKETT ~ WHERE’S MY HAT? ~ lp (TIME-LAG RECORDS)

WOODS FAMILY CREEPS ~ S/T ~ lp (TIME-LAG RECORDS)
HEATHER LEIGH MURRAY ~ DEVIL IF YOU CAN HEAR ME ~ lp (not not fun)

VARIOUS ARTISTS ~ BLACK MIRROR: REFLECTIONS IN GLOBAL MUSICS (1918-1955) ~ cd (dust-to-digital)

will report on later… i am listening to wood family creeps now and the name totally fits… very lo-fi, weird folk stuff with sound effects, kinda awesome.

I can’t wait to listen to Black Mirror, what can be better than old music from southeastern asia, africa and various european countries?

I am obsessed with Scrabulous now.

I am finally getting my car fixed… hooray for windows that will actually work and hooray for new bumper.

I am thinking of getting a custom license plate haha… front-runner right now is “shift 7” (my love for the ampersand runs deep) let me know what you think.

I am more than halfway through a book on post-communist Russia, it is amazingly good and made me emotional quite a few times.

pluramon is great, props to taylor, james, caitlin for repping them to the point of me listening to them.

awesome

the politics of parking haha

February 2, 2008

so, i was at the grocery store today and I noticed three (!) people backing into parking spaces. Now, I understand if you like backing your car into spaces elsewhere, but this just seems like they are creating work for themselves so they can look marginally cool or whatever. And I do not want to hear a word about it being easier to pull out of a space that way.
